Is that a soccerball?

No, it's a face!

Hehehe. I didn't mean that to be an insult or anything, since that's what we learned today: how to mock around with somebody's picture using Photoshop!

There are intially two ways of getting someone's face out of the picture. One is to cut out the face, and the other is to erase the background. Using liquify to deform someone's picture si probably the Grade 2 way do mocking with Photoshop. However, for ninth graders like me, our teacher told us to do something a little more creative. Instead of using liquify, you can replace someone else's body with another person's body; things like those.

We were asked to mock around with the teacher's photos. I'm going to do that right now.

The Day Is Today

Today was a very exciting/nerve-wrecking day for me. The day started off with me remembering that I had my computer assignment due today, and I forgot my USB at home. Then we had the honour-roll assembly, where I thought I wouldn’t get in the honour rolls. What happened was that they said all the names that were included, but didn’t say mine and one other of my classmate. I was about to cry when they said that there were two more students who had the highest average. It was me and my friend! I was so happy. I mean, getting one of the highest average is one thing, but actually receiving many ‘congratulations’ and ‘I’m happy for you’ from my friends and peers are another. Then I went home and both my parents were so proud! I’m very happy.

Well, that’s enough blabber from me. Here are some of the important things that my teacher mentioned about Macromedia Dremweaver.

  • When you insert a background image, sometimes the screen resolution might not adjust to it from different computers. So what you can do is use a table to format it. This is just making a table that covers up almost the entire whole page. Then you can insert the image into one of the boxes
  • You can also place in some frames in your website. This isn’t really important, but it’s a cool feature that you can play around with. A frame is almost an entirely different page (that never changes) along any side of the border of your website. You can do this by just clicking the Frame section in your toolbar.
  • The other thing that we spent some time on is the link button. Here there are several parts to it. (I’ll put up another post about this only.)

Macromedia and Other HTML programs

We were given an assignment to make an advertising website for Woodbine. To do this, we were supposed to use an HTML program call Macromedia that codes html into the real website and vice versa. HTML is a very useful tool just because sometimes not everything that you need to create a web page will be available to you. HTML allows you to do almost anything (only if you know the codes). So, there's a catch to it. However, that's what we're learning to do right now.

Our project is going to be about an advertising webpage about our school. I downloaded Pagebreeze, another HTML coding software. I find it a little bit easier to use than Macromedia Dreamweaver. It is slightly simpler, that's why. Dreamweaver contains many features such as the hyperlink 'grab and drag' tool that let's you drag a line right to the correct file. There are also other things like views you can put your page in like having the code right above you or just having your page alone.

What is another problem with this software is that when you create a brand new folder to start a new website, the folder that you save it in is a bit screwed up. There's a little incorrect symbol in it. You can change that by editing your site. Another thing that people gets trouble with is that they don't put everything they want in the website inside the folder. This makes your computer look in another folder. However, if you try it out in another computer, it wouldn't be able to link it all the way from a folder it can't even find.

Which brings me to another subject. You can't cut and paste an image in a website. What you do is to make a link that tells the website to look in a folder/ file to get that image.

The thing that started it all!

Today we learned all about html.

Using this tool is about one of the most useful thing that had been invented with the use of internet. Without it, web pages wouldn't exist. There wouldn't be any blogger, or graphics or any of the websites that we like to surf on so much. Everything would be text-based.

How this works is basically everything is written in codes. All the fonts, colour, parts, etc. are written in codes. Let me give you an example.

If you want to start a web page, the code for it will be:
If you want to change the color of a font (it has to be a hexidecimal code):

So the whole web pages are basically like this. What browsers do for us is to translate these codes into graphics so that we can understand them. Right now, there are only a few people who make web pages entirely this way. Others use programs that help them translate everything they're doing into codes automatically so they won't have to do it themselves.

Back From March Break

Well, it's a day after the break. Overall, I had a very good and productive break. I went to Ottawa for two days and I finished my art project just in time. I'm so happy.

I don't know what we're going to do in computer class or any other class. When I have something to write, I'll write it. Oh yeah! I got my computer test back. I did sort of poorly on it, but I still got above 80's. It's a bad way to start off third term, but I'll catch up.

Busy Last Day

It's the last day of school before the March Break. This is the busiest last day I've ever had. I received a project only a couple of days ago, and we're presenting today. I also have an art project due the day right when we come back.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do over the break. My mom wants us to clean the house, but my dad wants to go to Ottawa. I really think that we should go somewhere, first of all because we've never been there and second of all, because I will die of boredome if I just stay at home. Well, not literally since I have so many projects to keep me busy, but I have other lives.

Hydipidi!

The title says it all! I just finished writing a Photoshop test, and now it feels as if a half-a-world had been lifted up from my shoulders. Of course, I still have a French quiz tomorrow, but this test was actually short notice, and I didn't know if I had studied enough.

Well, I have been spending a lot more time in the Wiki. It's actually pretty cool once you get to know the community you're in. I have posted a couple of things in there, and I'm not sure how much sooner I would be able to make another article. I'm planning to spend some time personalizing my account. I'm actually going to check that out now.
